Established more than 25 years ago, our niche market client have developed an impressive reputation across the globe offering highest quality, innovative and unique products in line with specific customer needs, and as a result of continued success and a planned programme of strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit a proactive, professional and highly self motivated and dynamic Design Engineering Team Leader to coordinate the activities of an established and successful existing team.

The successful candidate will act as the lead expert for the business in design engineering disciplines to generate and develop novel solutions to mechanical and detail challenges, and will validate designs through varied means before communicating both formally and informally with adjacent functions to achieve buy in, motivating and inspiring colleagues and satisfying the needs of project stakeholders. You will drive the resolution of technical detail, produce engineering drawings and specifications and set the standard for others, whilst checking, maintaining and driving improvement and both meeting and exceeding expectations for project deliverables in terms of design specification, cost targets, design for manufacture and time taken.

With excellent leadership and communication skills, you will additionally possess knowledge and experience gained within an associated tooling sector (including injection moulding, aluminium extrusions and castings) and will have considerable skills in the creation of models to prove or disprove initial ideas as well as being able to present such solutions to both internal and external team audiences. Able to work autonomously as well as part of a team, you will occasionally travel to meet suppliers when considered beneficial to the manufacturing and production process and allowing you to provide additional support to the product development teams, so flexibility to travel is also a requirement for the position.

With a genuine passion for keeping abreast of materials, technologies and trends and an enthusiastic, motivated (and motivational) approach to projects, you will be a logical and organised individual with proven strategic abilities and of course exceptional design skills gained within an similarly innovative consumer product development environment.

You will be ESSENTIALLY be both first class degree qualified in a relevant Product Design, Manufacturing or Engineering related discipline, and able to demonstrate at least 2 years experience in both man management and the design and development (using Solidworks and ProEngineer) of all types of plastic and metal components and assemblies for mass production, with proven success in the delivery of complex projects within a fast paced environment and experience gained within the consumer product market proving additionally advantageous, as will experience of dealing with electronics or electromechanical assemblies, metal pressings and extrusion, and textiles and soft goods in both the UK and Asian markets.
