We are recruiting for one of the nation's largest commercial companies who provide an extensive range of construction services including construction management, general contracting, design and build and preconstruction.
An opportunity has arisen for a proactive Archivist Technician to join our team in Glasgow on a 3 month temporary contract. The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic individual with previous experience of working within a similar role. Your day to day duties will include the classification/categorisation of historical bridge and structures drawings. Drawings may be either in hard copy or electronic. The Ideal Background for the successful candidate will be, an Librarian or Archivist and possibly having worked as a technician, also working experience in a civil engineering environment with awareness and ability to read construction drawings
* HARD COPY DOCUMENTS: * Sorting through hard copies of drawings held in boxed and rolled sets in our basement. * Identification of the details on the drawing to obtain, as a minimum, the following: * The structure's name, location and identification or reference number, as available. Scheme reference under which the structure was developed. * Drawing's reference number, date and version, as available * Details shown on the drawing - eg. Span, plan, elevation, section, etc * Condition of the drawing - is it torn, damaged, in good condition?? * Such details to be entered into a database (excel or other) which needs to be developed by the Archivist following discussions * Prepare the hard copy drawings for issue to an external company for scanning into digital format. Subsequent archiving of the digital image (see Digital Drawings below) * Documents to be categorised and recorded into familiar groups such as Inspection Reports, Assessment Reports, Design Calculations and the like. Reference to structure name, ID, date, etc, as for drawings * Provide brief weekly emailed progress reports to Line Manager * DIGITAL and SOFT COPY DOCUMENTS AND DRAWINGS: * As for Hard Copy Drawings. * Except external scanning is not required * Drawings and documents to be re-filed on dedicated drives into folders and given a predetermined file name for ease of future access and reference * Provide brief weekly emailed progress to Line Manager
* Essential Criteria Computer literate; understanding of structures (preferably highway structures); background within Infrastructure or Railways; Ability to work under own initiative; * Ideal Background as a Librarian or Archivist would be good. Possibly having worked as a technician. Working experience in a civil engineering environment with awareness and ability to read construction drawings * Qualifications HNC or higher qualification is preferred. Relevant experience as an alternative. * Able to commute to Glassgow * Able to start ASAP
Up to £15.00 per hour, depending on experience.
