R&D Manager - Cambridgeshire
Prospero Engineering are recruiting for a R&D manager for a high tech R&D company in Cambridgeshire. This is an exciting opportunity to work on exciting and innovative research projects with government funding.
The ideal candidate will have experience of leading and delivery of funded research projects. Ideally you will be aware of the NDT sector but not essential. Salary is negotiable depending on what you can bring to the role
As a leading technology and research company, we work closely with industry and research organisations. We excel in the design of robotics and automation solutions to resolve complex inspection and automation challenges. Our engineering expertise has contributed to the successful delivery of 40 European and national collaborative research projects.
We have developed robotic products within niche and emerging robot markets, such as climbing and underwater robots for non-destructive testing in hazardous environments (wind turbines, oil tanks, underwater risers for offshore oil & gas installations, condition monitoring of aerospace & rail structures), systems collaborative robot teams (human-robot and robot-robot applications).
In addition, we are active within medical R&D for assistive wearable exoskeletons for the elderly. Our multinational personnel are dynamic and committed in their role to provide innovative solutions within robotic applications. Our premises are located amongst beautiful English countryside, a short distance from the city of Cambridge, renowned for innovation and academia.
• Reporting to the Technical Director, manage our engineering team and coordinate project activities • Working with our Project Management team and project partners, ensure project delivery within time and budget • Monitor project progress and take a proactive stance to improve team efficiency and productivity • Support the engineering team and Technical Director to deliver project deliverables and support company product development activities • Be the interface between multidisciplinary engineering team and provide effective technical advice • Contribute to the timely preparation of project progress reports • Ensure effective communications with project partners and funding bodies • Lead project dissemination, exploitation planning and execution activities • Work closely with the Technical Director in the creation of technical concepts to formulate R&D proposals for submission to funding agencies Required
Qualifications/Skills: • Excellent first degree in mechanical, electronics, mechatronics engineering or related discipline - PhD in Robotics or a technical discipline preferred • 5 years practical research experience within industrial applications • 2 years team management and project management experience, preferably European Commission and Innovate UK funded projects • Proficient in Microsoft Office software packages including Microsoft Project • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Excellent organisation and time-management skills • Ability to self-supervise with constructive response to timeline restrictions, keeping attention to details and accuracy • A motivational team player to enthuse effective project operations
